About
Alternativa is a global non-profit initiative dedicated to bringing impactful cinema from the Global South to audiences worldwide. We believe film has the power to educate, raise awareness, and inspire positive social change. Through our distribution arm, we help impactful films overcome structural barriers and get the international circulation they deserve.
We work with television broadcasters, streaming platforms, inflight entertainment networks, and educational institutions, extending each film's life far beyond the festival circuit to maximize both reach and impact.
Our fair, non-profit distribution model reinvests in filmmakers and regional film industries across the Global South. By investing in localization and accessibility, Alternativa Distribution connects high-quality, engaging stories with global audiences—creating more opportunities for meaningful dialogue and lasting social impact.

FAQ
Alternativa Distribution is a non-profit, non-theatrical distribution label dedicated to expanding the reach of impact-driven films from the Global South. We act as a sales partner and curator, sublicensing high-quality scripted, documentary, and animated features to global, regional and local buyers in TV, streaming and inflight ecosystems.
Alternativa Distribution is a new arm of Alternativa, the non-profit film initiative supported by global mobility services platform inDrive as a core project within inDrive’s social impact arm, inVision. InVision invests in education, entrepreneurship, the arts, and social innovation to expand opportunities and drive positive change in underserved communities worldwide.
We operate on a fair-trade, non-commercial framework designed to support the filmmaking ecosystem rather than maximize corporate profit:
- A fair Minimum Guarantee: We provide upfront liquidity to rights holders upon acquisition to ease immediate financial pressures.
- Localization support: We fully fund and manage translation, subtitling, and dubbing into regional languages to remove accessibility barriers.
- Revenue share: Once recouped immediate distribution costs, distribution revenues are split between the rights holders and Alternativa. Alternativa’s share aims to cover initial license fees and dubbing costs.
By partnering with Alternativa, buyers gain immediate access to a highly curated, premium slate of impact-driven films, backed by distinct operational and commercial advantages:
Accessible pricing: Because we operate under a non-profit, impact-first framework, we offer premium, festival-grade titles at highly accessible licensing fees.
Fully funded localization: Alternativa completely absorbs and manages the technical costs of localization. We handle translation, subtitling, and dubbing into regional languages and enable your audience to be exposed to our films as quickly as possible.
Impact data: We’ll provide the industry with case studies about the way the films we distribute create impact. We track films through audience surveys social listening and interviews.
We focus mostly on highly acclaimed films, but we’re also looking for hidden gems that didn’t get the right opportunity. We curate films with transformative potential, artistic excellence and audience accessibility.
In addition to sourcing films through our industry network, we acquire titles in collaboration with Alternativa Film Festival. Additionally, we run an operation of expert regional film scouts in the Global South, whose local knowledge and industry connections help identify outstanding films for our catalogue. Finally, we accept direct submissions from filmmakers.
