AFF 2026 offered 42 free public screenings at two iconic Medellín venues, Museum of Modern Art (MAMM) and historic Cineprox Las Américas. Two outdoor screenings at MAMM became major highlights of the program, drawing a combined audience of 6,800 attendees and creating a vibrant communal atmosphere.
After the screenings audiences were invited to engage with the Fruits of Dialogue installation, a tree where visitors could leave handwritten notes about the thoughts, emotions, and ideas “planted” in them after watching the films, transforming individual reactions into a collective reflection
Discussions: Diálogos Alternos
45-minute post-screening discussions and conversations where each film continued to breathe beyond the credits. They brought together a representative of the film, a cultural voice from Medellín, and the audience in an open dialogue between the film’s universe and the local context that receives it. More than a Q&A, they became a space where cinema sparks ideas, emotions, and questions that resonate collectively and create meaning together.
The discussions program of the 3rd Alternativa Film Festival is part of the cinematic experience itself. A film also lives in the questions it leaves behind, in the words it stirs in others, and in the ways it becomes a shared conversation. We have named it Diálogos Alternos to evoke the transformation these exchanges make possible, and the new meanings they can open through encounters with Global South cinema.
