About the expert

Vanessa Cuervo Forero (Colombia)

Vanessa is a Colombian film and impact strategist, dancer, cultural worker, and community weaver. As Director of Programs for Latin America at Doc Society, she works with documentaries to spark social change toward more just and diverse societies.

Vanessa talks about one of the key resources for anyone working in impact producing — the Impact Field Guide. Watch to learn how this guide can support impact producers in shaping strategy, strengthening campaigns, and why it has become such a valuable reference in the field.

Let’s get familiar with another comprehensive resource developed by Doc Society — the Safe + Secure Guide. Filmmaking isn’t always safe, especially when working with sensitive topics or vulnerable communities. The session explores common risks filmmakers may face and shows how the guide’s handbook, checklists, and protocols can help with preparation and response.

How can impact campaigns be studied and compared across different contexts? This video guides you through the Latin American Media Library on Cinema and Social Impact, a collaborative platform created by organizations in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. It introduces 22 in-depth case studies and shows how filters — from budget size and country to topics and impact dynamics — can be used to explore strategies relevant to your own work.

Another useful resource is Inspiratorio, a training space where organizations and activists can exercise their narrative power. In this video, you’ll find out how Inspiratorio’s tools and practices can help build audiences, strengthen communities, and develop more effective storytelling strategies, supporting long-term impact work.

Part 2: Peace is Loud presents

About the expert

Florencia Varela (USA)

Florencia is Program Lead for Learning and Filmmaker Outreach at Peace is Loud. She has worked on impact campaigns for films such as Knock Down the House, The Bleeding Edge, and On the Divide. She also serves on the boards of The Future of Film is Female and GIPA — Global Impact Producers Alliance.

Let’s explore the Peace Is Loud Collective Lens Library and how to make the most of it. You’ll learn what this resource is, what kinds of guides and tools it offers, and how to navigate it effectively. Florencia walks through the filter system to help you search across dozens of resources — including case studies, ready-to-use templates and spreadsheets for your own impact work, links to additional resources, and other invaluable tools designed to save filmmakers time.

Florencia refers to two guides focused on participant care — Shine a Light: A Filmmaker’s Guide to Creating a Duty of Care Plan and In the Spotlight Guide. These resources directly relate to the themes explored in our module Peace Is Loud Presents: Participant Care Challenges and Strategies.

Florencia introduces the Global Impact Producers Alliance (GIPA), a network of more than 800 people working with impact. Their resources library brings together tools from around the world, overviews of impact organizations, funding opportunities and funders, and much more. You’ll take a closer look at this range of resources, as well as the additional opportunities that come with GIPA membership.
