The 2026 Selection Committee is revealed

In 2026, the Alternativa Film Festival will serve as a meeting point for impactful films from Asia and Latin America. We’re proud to welcome new committee members with deep knowledge of and love for Latin American cinema — from Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Cuba, and more.

I deeply believe that cinema is capable of changing the world and transforming societies, it is a very powerful tool with the responsibility to do more than just entertain; that is why being part of the Selection Committee of Alternativa, besides being an honor, is above all a wonderful opportunity to get closer to Latin American short stories that can change reality and it will be a pleasure to share them with the public.

Cinema grows and breathes with diversity. This is what I expect for the next edition of the Alternativa Film Festival: more stories from the less travelled paths, more identities from the less talked regions, more communities from the less imagined worlds. Moreover, I expect Alternativa to stand ever closer and deeper with the grassroots.

The Alternativa  Film Festival focuses on social cinema — films that strive to make the world a better place. I consider it an honor to be part of the Selection Committee and help bring the most meaningful works to light. Asia and Latin America — despite the great distance and differences between them — seem to share something in common: magical realism, one of the tools for creating cinematic language. I think we will soon see whether this tool still works or if it has been replaced by something more contemporary.
