We launched the Alternativa Film Awards in Central Asia in 2023 and expanded to Southeast Asia in 2024, introducing a festival program ahead of the awards ceremony to deepen public engagement. With the third edition set in Latin America, we now establish the project as a full-fledged festival. This rebranding marks a strategically planned evolution, as Alternativa transitions from an industry-focused platform to one that actively involves the general public and local communities.
Alternativa Film Awards Rebrands as Alternativa Film Festival
The nomadic Alternativa project, formerly known as the Alternativa Film Awards, is now officially the Alternativa Film Festival, reflecting its growing scope and commitment to connecting impactful cinema with broader audiences. The 2026 edition will be set in Latin America.

The Awards remain an integral part of the Alternativa Film Festival, with the ceremony as its climax. However, the festival’s program will continue to grow and evolve, offering more screenings, discussions, and public events designed to amplify the impact of the competing films.
