Alternativa continues to expand its network of impact partnerships in Kazakhstan, creating opportunities for audiences to take direct action in support of socially important projects. One of these partnerships is the collaboration with the EcoMuseum (Karaganda Regional Ecological Museum) — an independent environmental organization with decades of experience in public education and research.

A core priority of the EcoMuseum is preserving historical memory and rethinking the long-term consequences of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site. Despite the scale of the tragedy, the real impact of nuclear testing remains largely unknown to the wider public, and affected communities need continued attention and solidarity — as portrayed in We Live Here, a powerful documentary directed by Alternativa Film Labs alumna Zhanana Kurmasheva.

To address this gap, the EcoMuseum is developing an educational course on the past, present, and future of Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site. The course offers an accessible, science-based perspective on the history and legacy of nuclear testing, environmental issues, and sustainable development. It is designed to serve as a valuable resource for schools and universities across Kazakhstan, helping young people develop ecological awareness and a responsible understanding of their country’s history.

As part of its impact partnership with Alternativa, the EcoMuseum has already released the first modules of the course online, available for free to everyone. Additional support will allow the team to complete the course and develop teaching materials for educators.
