NON-CONVENTIONAL COPRODUCTION: WHAT IS COMING NEXT. SOUTH–SOUTH PARTNERSHIPS BEYOND THE RHETORIC
Industry Days Panel · BAM/Proimágenes Colombia x Alternativa
MAMM · 90 min
About the panel
South–South coproductions are often presented as a corrective to historically North-driven financing structures, yet their real dynamics remain complex, uneven, and insufficiently examined. This panel brings together filmmakers and producers working across Latin America, Africa, and Asia to explore what truly happens when Global South territories collaborate directly.
Drawing on concrete experiences, the discussion addresses power asymmetries, authorship, access to resources, and decision-making processes, questioning when such collaborations lead to structural change — and when they risk becoming symbolic gestures. Rather than focusing on success stories, the session foregrounds tensions, contradictions, and the unfinished nature of South–South cooperation.
