The winners of the Alternativa Film Awards 2024 in Yogyakarta have been announced!

Six winners of the Alternativa Film Awards have been revealed. A total prize fund of $100,000 was evenly distributed among five categories. The award winners were selected by an independent international jury that features filmmakers from Southeast and Central Asia.

Alternativa has announced the dates for the festival in Yogyakarta

The 2024 Alternativa Film Festival will run for a week — from November 22 to 28, featuring screenings and discussions, with the awards ceremony taking place on the final day, November 29. Additionally, Industry Days will be held on November 27-29 as part of the festival.

Alternativa has counted all the open-call submissions, totaling in 1043 applications from 33 different countries

The shortlist includes 25 films created by filmmakers from Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, and more.

Impact Lab
Open call from May 13 to August 5

The Lab is designed for producers and directors from Central Asia whose projects address socially significant issues. The experts from Think-Film Impact Production will train participants on how to build impact seamlessly into film development, production and distribution for maximum social change effect and film success.

The winners of the Alternativa Film Awards have been announced. The Awards were presented to filmmakers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Nepal. A total prize fund of $100,000 was evenly distributed among five categories.

The award winners were selected by an independent international jury composed of filmmakers from Asia and Europe and representatives from public organizations.

Alternativa Film Project

The Alternativa Film Project is a new international project to support filmmakers from developing film industries, and to make them more visible on a global scale.

The project is a nomadic initiative that will gradually expand its geography. In 2023, we kick off in Central Asia with three film labs and our first international awards ceremony, to be held in Kazakhstan.

Alternativa Film labs

Alternativa offers free educational programs for filmmakers at different stages of their journey, who explore social issues in their countries, and who seek to develop their homeland’s film industry and give a voice to their local communities.

We provide the necessary skills and toolkit to help filmmakers amplify their project’s impact, expand their audience, and tell important stories that haven’t been screened yet due to a lack of knowledge or resources.
They will not only acquire knowledge and experience, but also gain access to a platform for networking and the free exchange of ideas, along with further development opportunities with project partners.
Key players in cinema with extensive industry experience, from the directors of international festivals to successful producers, as well as international experts who know how to come up with and implement strategies which trigger real social change.
