We invite Colombian visual artists — individual artists, illustrators, graphic designers, as well as creative studios or collectives — to create the key visual for the 3rd Alternativa Film Festival, taking place in Medellín from April 21–30, 2026. 


Invitamos a artistas visuales colombianos — artistas individuales, ilustradores, diseñadores gráficos, así como agencias creativas, estudios o colectivos — a crear la imagen principal del 3º Alternativa Film Festival, que se celebrará en Medellín del 21 al 30 de abril de 2026.

About

This is the first time the Alternativa Film Festival is commissioning its key visual through an open call to artists, marking the beginning of a new tradition. Our festival is nomadic, moving to a new region with each edition. With this initiative, we want each edition’s key visual to become a symbol of its place and time, reflecting the cultural context of the host country through the artistry and perspective of local artists.

Esta es la primera vez que el Alternativa Film Festival encarga su imagen principal a través de una convocatoria abierta para artistas, marcando el inicio de una nueva tradición. Nuestro festival es nómada y se traslada a una nueva región en cada edición. Con esta iniciativa, queremos que la imagen principal de cada edición se convierta en un símbolo de su lugar y su momento, reflejando el contexto cultural del país anfitrión a través del arte y la perspectiva de los artistas locales.

The selected artwork will serve as the official key visual of the festival and will be adapted across all festival communications. The selected artist or collective will be commissioned and awarded a prize of USD 1,000 for their work, with full credit and visibility across Alternativa’s platforms.

La obra seleccionada será la imagen clave oficial del festival y se adaptará a todos los materiales de comunicación del festival. El artista o colectivo seleccionado será contratado y recibirá un premio de 1.000 USD por su trabajo, con pleno reconocimiento y visibilidad en todas las plataformas de Alternativa.

Sourcing our festival key visual through an open call feels like a very natural step for us. We prioritize working with local creatives and deeply value their cultural knowledge and perspectives — they understand the place, its context, and its energy in ways no one else can. We believe this collaboration will not only shape the identity of this year’s festival, but also help us build a meaningful long-term tradition. And now, we’re truly excited to see Medellín and Colombia through the eyes of local artists — their colors, their stories, and their vision of how cinema meets social impact.

Encargar la imagen principal de nuestro festival a través de una convocatoria abierta nos parece un paso muy natural. Damos prioridad al trabajo con creativos locales y valoramos profundamente su conocimiento cultural y sus perspectivas — ellos entienden el lugar, su contexto y su energía como nadie más. Creemos que esta colaboración no solo dará forma a la identidad de la edición de este año, sino que también nos ayudará a construir una tradición significativa a largo plazo. Y ahora, estamos realmente emocionados por ver Medellín y Colombia a través de los ojos de los artistas locales — sus colores, sus historias y su visión de cómo el cine se encuentra con el impacto social.

  • We are looking for a strong, original key visual that:

    • reflects Alternativa Film Festival’s mission and vision
    • captures the cultural energy and spirit of Colombia and/or Medellín, without relying on stereotypes or exoticism
    • has artistic depth while remaining appealing to wider audiences
    • functions primarily as the festival poster, while being adaptable across all festival communication materials — both print and digital


    Buscamos una imagen principal sólida y original que:

    • refleje la misión y visión del Alternativa Film Festival;
    • capture la energía cultural y el espíritu de Colombia y/o Medellín, sin recurrir a estereotipos ni exotizaciones;
    • tenga profundidad artística y, al mismo tiempo, resulte atractiva para públicos amplios;
    • funcione principalmente como afiche oficial del festival, y sea a la vez adaptable a todos los materiales de comunicación, tanto impresos como digitales.

  • The open call is open to Colombian visual artists, including individual artists, illustrators, and graphic designers, as well as creative agencies, studios, or collectives. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be a citizen or permanent resident of Colombia.


    La convocatoria está abierta a artistas visuales colombianos, incluidos artistas individuales, ilustradores y diseñadores gráficos, así como agencias creativas, estudios o colectivos. Los solicitantes deben tener al menos 18 años y ser ciudadanos colombianos o residentes permanentes en Colombia.

  • We’re asking for one strong, original key visual, but you may submit up to three artworks if you wish, either as independent pieces or variations of the same concept. You are free to choose any technique that fits your artistic language, including illustration, collage, graphic design, photography, mixed media, digital or hand-drawn artwork

    Solicitamos una imagen principal fuerte y original, pero si lo deseas puedes enviar hasta tres obras, ya sea como piezas independientes o como variaciones de un mismo concepto. Puedes elegir libremente cualquier técnica que se ajuste a tu lenguaje artístico, incluyendo ilustración, collage, diseño gráfico, fotografía, técnicas mixtas y obra digital o dibujada a mano.

    Puedes encontrar todos los requisitos para las obras enviadas en las Directrices de la Convocatoria.

  • Submissions will be evaluated by the Open Call Jury, consisting of members of the Alternativa and inDrives team, as well as experts in visual communication and design from Colombia.

    The Alternativa design team will adapt the selected artwork into official festival materials in coordination with the artist.


    Las propuestas serán evaluadas por el Jurado de la Convocatoria, compuesto por miembros del equipo de Alternativa y de inDrive, así como por expertos en comunicación visual y diseño de Colombia.

    El equipo de diseño de Alternativa adaptará la obra seleccionada para convertirla en materiales oficiales del festival, en coordinación con el/la artista.

  • We will highlight 3–5 shortlisted submissions across Alternativa’s social media and communication channels.


    Destacaremos entre 3 y 5 propuestas preseleccionadas en los canales de comunicación y redes sociales de Alternativa.

  • The winner of the open call receives:

    • a monetary prize of USD 1,000
    • exposure across all Festival platforms, including the website and social media
    • mention in press releases and marketing materials
    • an invitation to attend the Festival, including the Opening Ceremony, the Awards Ceremony, and selected screenings


    El ganador o la ganadora de la convocatoria recibirá:

    • un premio monetario de 1.000 USD
    • visibilidad en todas las plataformas del Festival, incluido el sitio web y las redes sociales
    • mención en comunicados de prensa y materiales promocionales
    • una invitación para asistir al Festival, incluida la Ceremonia de Apertura, la Ceremonia de Premiación y proyecciones seleccionadas
