For me, it will always be an honor to be part of projects that support those of us who want to dedicate our lives to art and culture—to creating stories that truly move people. Alternativa Film Festival is part of that movement: one where more voices can share what they feel, think, and live, no matter where they come from.

The announcement coincides with the release of the official festival trailer—offering a first glimpse into a program of 36 films from 20 countries across Latin America and Asia, united by urgency, diversity, and the power of storytelling.

Opening the festival is Belén, Argentina’s Oscar submission — a gripping courtroom drama based on a true story that galvanized a movement for reproductive rights. Directed by Dolores Fonzi — an award-winning actress, director, and producer, and one of the most influential voices in contemporary Latin American cinema — the film is a powerful portrait of injustice, resilience, and the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood.

Belén is inspiring, engaging and beautifully crafted. Based on a true story from Argentina, it follows a young woman unjustly imprisoned for a miscarriage and the lawyer who fights for her freedom. This is cinema that matters. It exposes state control over women's bodies and systemic injustice while celebrating what's possible when women unite. As reproductive rights face threats worldwide, Belén reminds us why stories like these can ignite movements and reclaim dignity.
