The first Artist Open Call in Alternativa’s history aimed to give local artists — especially emerging ones — the opportunity to shape this year’s festival image and celebrate creativity beyond portfolios and formal experience. The winning proposal will receive a $1,000 prize.

The open call ran from January 26 to February 28, 2026, attracting strong interest from the Colombian creative community. In total, 242 submissions were received, of which 191 applications were eligible, representing approximately 79% of all submissions. Most applications were submitted by individual artists, accounting for 230 entries (95%), while creative agencies or collectives contributed 12 submissions. Medellín and Bogotá accounted for nearly equal shares of submissions, with 68 entries from Medellín (28.1%) and 67 from Bogotá (27.7%), while 107 submissions (44.2%) came from other regions of the country and from Colombian artists based abroad.

The shortlist, featuring 7 artists, is currently being reviewed by the Artist Open Call Jury: Lola Kabina, Senior Designer at Alternativa; Andjelka Jankovic, Head of Marketing and Communications at Alternativa; Nikolay Kireev, Design Director at inDrive; Mariaangela Celia, Marketing Manager at inDrive; Carolina García Franco and Sara López Zapata, the muralist duo Las Chicas Que Pintan from Medellín. After the Jury selects the winning proposal, the Alternativa design team will adapt the selected artwork into official festival materials in coordination with the artist. The key visual of the 3rd Alternativa Film Festival will be presented at the end of March.

Shortlisted submissions: works by Manuela Caicedo, Vanessa Ramirez, Emmanuel Rincón Villegas, José Miguel Machado Morales, Laina Quesada, Juan Nicolás Navarrete Fonseca, Beetho (Julian Gomez)

Beetho (Julian Gomez) is a visual creative from Palmira, Valle del Cauca, whose multidisciplinary practice spans graphic, audiovisual, and conceptual design. His proposal draws on the idea of horror vacui — a dense, maximalist visual language reflecting Colombia’s many cultures and subcultures.
