Teen Lab

Bishkek, September-November 2023

A cinema workshop for teenagers who want to shoot and act in films, and learn how to tell captivating stories through films and videos on social networks. This is a platform for experimentation, where freedom of expression and love of the cinema are key. The cinema workshop is held in Bishkek for teenagers aged 13-17, and includes two in-person 10-day crash courses in September and November, with online sessions in between. This is a creative lab for anyone who wants to understand cinema; shoot and act in films; ask questions and experiment; and observe the world and themselves.

The instructors will explain how to start making films; how the personal experiences and even the fears of participants can be an asset; and how to tell captivating visual stories, including through videos on social networks. Participants will be given an opportunity to try out live action and documentary genres, acquire 'verbatim 'techniques, write scripts, look for locations, come up with decorations, and conduct an audition. The workshop will end with participants shooting short films, which may be screened at cinema festivals.
