Teen Lab 2024

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, June – October 2024

What is the film lab for teenagers?

If you want to make films but you don’t know how to start. If you have always wanted to tell about yourself, create stories, make videos, and edit them, and if you are a teenager from 12 to 18 years old and live in Uzbekistan, we’re looking for you.

Our film lab will consist of three parts. Two offline intensive courses (in June and September) and one online session in between. Within this time, our students will try themselves in different roles: create scripts, find characters, shoot videos, and be involved in them as actors. Our task is to make you feel comfortable so that the world of cinema won’t be scary or something very adult to you.

We want to show you that today, a teenager can make a movie no worse than adults do, and you have all the tools to achieve this. Even if you don’t want to liaise your life with cinema, the most important thing is that we will be talking a lot about you and art, as well as how to find it in our everyday life. You are the main character of this lab.

We don’t give score values, nor do we have tests in the usual sense. Our tutors are, first and foremost, your co-authors who help you to promote and develop your ideas. At the end of the first intensive session, we will make one common film. At the end of the last session, together with your curators, you will make films based on your scripts.

We won’t mark your attendance, but our classes are quite intensive. While applying for the lab, please be prepared to spend 3-4 hours every day. In addition, there will be three filming days, and you are expected to spend them with us from morning till evening. If you are not able to attend all the classes but still wish to take part in the lab, please contact us separately.

We don’t care if you have already tried to make movies or you have never even gotten close to this idea. We’re looking for very different teenagers, and your desire to speak up about yourself, your country, the world around you is our main criteria. Our choice of participants will be based on the small competition: please fill in our creative form and send us a small video task. If there are too many submissions, we will need to announce the second round and come back to you with another additional task.
The open call for this lab starts on April 1 and ends on May 20.
The selection results will be announced on our website on June 1.
The first intensive session will take place in Tashkent, June 10-20.

To participate in our film lab, please provide us with written consent on behalf of at least one of your parents.

The lab will be held in Uzbek and Russian languages.
